(Jacques Derrida)

(HerbertMarshall McLuhan)

We used to be standing the gleam for the advent of dawn, but nowadays we are living in a field of lightings day and night. We have been overwhelmed with a network of sensory temptations that are endlessly incenting our nerves.

In this enthusing era, our civilization has manufactured bright and colorful beams, sounds and hues, and things have to be pervasive and powerful to induce our notice. Easy communications have greatly curtailed distance between us, while our imagination starts to be subject to “poems and the future”. Internet has all in a sudden broken through obstacles among people. The idea of “One Great Human Family” proposed by Edward Steichen in the 1950s is no longer utopia. Human kinds are harnessing smart technologies and precision tools to master and reform thins, but our ability to distinguish and judge is silently diminishing.Clear and full details have unraveled mystery of the world, and our respect for it has fainted away.

However, arts have the charm of awakening the senses deep inside us as creatures. Light Writers 2016 Contemporary Image Art Exhibition, bringing together six Chinese outstanding artists that includs Wang Dongling, Wang Ningde, Shao Wenhuan, Tang Nannan, Chuchu, Taca Sui. Their artworks are able to create forms with the faint, fine and single colored gleam, and pilotour views toward subtleness and the plainest scene of history. This gleam is the tinder passed over to us by ancient civilization and allows us to enjoy temporal wisdom with our ancestors. It connects the past, the present and thefuture, links imagination and creativity of human kind, and delivers the invisible souls that have been materialized.

This artwork exhibition is a display of “writings by lights”, a practice of generating and transforming image languages. We attempt to trace the origin of images and texts, and this practice has passed through the fore frontier of imaging VS writing, form VS meaning. These elements are merged, overlaid, permeated and translated, breaking the boundary of their representativeness and promising endless possibility of rendering.

Artists are authors of history, interpreters of civilization, and poets with passionate views towards the world. The artists here in base lights as medium, inks as color and poems as methods, to recreate origin of writing and imaging and enjoy smooth and smart switches between the two elements. It may well be that only breaking away from mere forms can we each the soul of arts. Display of light language confirms the phrase ‘medium is information’. By breaking away from traditional norms for visual arts, image resolution is no longer the only standard or way for creation. For expression of contemporary visual arts, it is itself a paradox, the realization of which is based on abandon of traditional tools and rules.

These contemporary artworks have surpassed individual pursuits to undertake explorative practices and record intelligence and values of humans’interpretation of the world.
